4WD D'Urville Island - Marlborough High Country Tour Lead Vehicle Seat
Ride in the lead four wheel drive vehicle and assist our guide to explore the new coastline of Marlborough, back country stations and D’Urville Island on this new 4WD adventure.

Stay on a Waihopai Valley high country station for two nights to drive on the farm tracks and see the historic musterer huts and enjoy the farm hospitality. Drive to the outer Marlborough Sounds to catch a barge for a very special experience to drive on D’Urville Island. Hear about the rich history and life on the island from our guide as you drive over the remote island. An unforgettable trip from the mountains to the sea.
Day 1: Blenheim to Awatere Valley to Waihopai Valley
8.15 Your driver will collect you before meeting the rest of the group at the Blenheim Railway Station to start the tour. Explore the changing coastline of Marlborough for the morning, enjoy lunch in the homestead of an olive grower before proceeding to our accommodation in the Waihopai Valley on a Station. Here we stay for two nights. Your guide is getting the apron out to cook a BBQ dinner with your help tonight. L.D
Day 2: Waihopai Valley
Today we are driving on two different back country stations in the Waihopai Valley. The farmer will be accompanying us on our tour through her/his property giving us the history and stories, lots of amazing views and farm hospitality. After this stunning day we will have dinner in the homestead tonight with the owners, enjoying a lovely roast dinner. B.L.D
Day 3: Waihopai Valley to French Pass to D’Urville Island
We drive down Waihopai Valley, refuel along the way to the outer Marlborough Sounds to French Pass to meet our barge to transport us to Kapowai Bay, D’Urville Island. We then drive 40 minutes to Catherine Cove arriving mid-afternoon. We stay for two nights at the Wilderness Lodge; the accommodation is modern styled cabins with ensuite bathrooms. Dinner at 7.00pm at the lodge tonight. B.D
NB. Accommodation in March will be at a private lodge instead.
Day 4: D’Urville Island
We drive in convoy over D’Urville Island with our local guides, learn about the rich history and what it is like to live on this remote island. Enjoy morning tea and lunch at scenic spots with amazing views before arriving back at our accommodation.
Day 5: D’Urville Island - Havelock to Blenheim
We drive to the southern part of the island to meet or barge to transport us back to French Pass on the mainland. Enjoy the views of the outer Marlborough Sounds and across to the Abel Tasman and Golden Bay areas, we then drive back to Havelock for a bite to eat, returning to Blenheim for our end of tour goodbyes.
