Enjoy cycling in beautiful Hanmer Springs, private Molesworth Station, parts of the Nelson Great Taste Trail, and the Spooners Tunnel cycle trail. Enjoy good food and comfortable accommodation on this five-day fully supported cycle tour.
Cycle Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Christchurch - Hanmer Springs
Your Mid-morning pickup from Christchurch will be from a point to suit you, we will then travel to the Hurunui district on our way to the heartland of Canterbury backcountry. Enjoy a wine tasting and platter lunch overlooking the Waiau River before arriving in the alpine village of Hanmer Springs, well known for the thermal hot pools and cycling trails, boutique shopping and cafes. You will have ample free time to explore the area before a group dinner in the village tonight.
Day 2: Molesworth Station - Approx. 64km cycle ride
After breakfast you will be driven to the top of Jacks Pass, the boundary of Molesworth Station, to cycle to the historic Acheron accommodation house for morning tea. Then bike beside the Acheron River to our lunch time spot, then after lunch a short ride in your support vehicle to start cycling your afternoon stage, later in the afternoon we will drive to our farm accommodation for the night.

Day 3: Molesworth Station - Approx. 36km cycle ride
After breakfast we will cycle from the farm to the next station where you will enjoy morning tea in the woolshed. Enjoy a picturesque cycle ride beside the Awatere River to our farm host for lunch. A ride in your support vehicle to commence cycling mainly downhill past farmland and vineyards of the Awatere Valley towards the Dashwood corner. Relax and enjoy being driven to central Blenheim for your stay with dinner out tonight.

Day 4: Nelson - Spooners Tunnel - Approx. 54 km cycle ride
8.00 am Depart after breakfast we drive to Nelson central, to start cycling on the cycleway around the harbour to Brightwater, cycle through the Tasman township of Wakefield and Belgrove before cycling through the Spooners Tunnel. Sit back and enjoy the relaxing drive to the Nelson Lakes district for your overnight stay.

Day 5: St Arnard - Christchurch - Approx. 46 km cycle ride
8.30 am Depart St Arnard to drive to the turn off to Lake Rotoroa. Cycle to the picturesque lake surrounded by towering bush clad mountains for a picnic morning tea. Then again on your bike through the bush area of the Braeburn track to the farming areas of the Tutaki and Mangles Valley, then continue cycling to Murchison for lunch.
The afternoon sees us driving past West Coast farmland, then into the bush clad mountains of the Southern Alps. After a quick stop for coffee continue through Lewis Pass into the rolling hills of North Canterbury then into the rich farming areas of the Canterbury Plains, a quick stop off at a quaint Canterbury town, then arriving in Christchurch by 6pm.

You might like to bring a Gel seat cover for your comfort.
If you are bringing your own mountain bikes, thick tyres are recommended and shock absorbers are not essential but will make the trip more comfortable. Make sure it is in good condition and has been recently serviced and you have a spare inner tube. We can arrange bike hire for you.

You will need a moderate level of fitness with some off road experience biking on shingle surfaces.
Tour start and finish times
The tour starts mid morning from Christchurch and returns to Christchurch approximately 6.00pm on day five.
We will have plenty of storage space but we urge you to keep your luggage to a minimum. Please limit yourself to 18 kgs; two smaller bags are better than one large heavy bag. Travel packs, sports bags or soft sided suitcases are the easiest way to store and access your luggage.
