Christchurch
10am
9 am pick up from your accommodation, in and around Christchurch, then on to Ashburton stopping at The Ashford Store if you need to stock up on any knitting supplies and get a bite to eat here also. We travel onto Omarama to enjoy an optional soak in hot tubs early evening under the fabulous Omarama big sky landscape. Dinner 6.30pm before retiring to your comfortable bed.

Today we explore Twizel, take a short walk at the Omarama Clay Cliffs, before travelling to Tekapo for a two-night stay at Peppers Hotel. Early dinner at 5pm followed by a followed by a stargazing experience.

Enjoy a relaxing breakfast in the hotel restaurant before going for this morning before taking a fabulous 30 – minute scenic flight in a fixed wing aircraft over the MacKenzie Basin. You will have time to explore central Tekapo and have a bite of lunch before going for a scenic dive to Lake Alexandrina and enjoy a picnic afternoon tea surrounded by nature.

After a relaxing breakfast in the hotel restaurant this morning you will be able to relax in the Tekapo with spare time to enjoy hot pools (optional), enjoy the views over the lake and surrounding mountains. We will get some lunch to take for a picnic, on our scenic drive up the right-hand side of Lake Pukaki. Enjoy the views before going to Mt Cook for a fabulous evening at the Hermitage. The entertainment tonight will be at the Sir Edmund Hillary Centre.

After a relaxing breakfast in the Aoraki hotel restaurant with amazing views of Mt Cook Today we will stop at the Church of the Good Shepperd to catch the morning light over Lake Tekapo stopping at Burkes Pass and Fairlie for a bite to eat, a special visit to Temuka, reaching Geraldine approximately 4pm

We are going out for breakfast at Barkers, this morning. Then we explore the township of Geraldine, with an art gallery visits, cheese tasting, enjoy a botanical riverside walk in the town, before we take the inland scenic route, stopping at Methven, visit Opuke thermal pools for lunch, see Staveley, Mt Sommers, travelling through Raikaia Gorge on our way to Christchurch arriving late afternoon.

I really enjoyed the Winter Wonderland Night Sky Tour, it is lovely to see all that area again in a relaxed way. The highlight was definitely the hoar frost! An unexpected bonus and so pleased Geoff turned around and went back to get some amazing photographs. I intend to frame a collection of them. Also to get in to some of the back roads was great. I had never stayed at the Hermitage or Tekapo or Geraldine, so really enjoyed that. We also got to explore Twizel a bit more, the night sky tour was a good experience
My favourite parts would be the hoar frost, which was spectacular, Lake Alexandrina, Lake Tekapo hot pools and doing part of the Hooker Valley walk. It was also great to visit the Clay Cliffs as I have seen them from the road before so an up close visit was very interesting.
